The Night Before

Confirm your arrival time with your movers. Charge your phone fully. Pack your "first night" box with essentials: chargers, toiletries, medications, snacks, toilet paper, and a change of clothes. Clear hallways and doorways so movers can walk through easily. If you reserved elevator time or a parking permit, double check the paperwork is in place.

Protect Your Floors and Walls

Lay down old blankets or cardboard along high-traffic paths, especially in Boston apartments with hardwood floors or in winter when boots track in slush. Remove door stoppers so doors can open fully, and take doors off hinges if large furniture needs extra clearance.

Empty, Defrost, and Disconnect Appliances

Empty the refrigerator and freezer, and defrost the freezer at least 24 hours ahead so it does not leak in the truck. Disconnect washers, dryers, and anything else hooked up to water or gas lines. Movers cannot transport appliances that are still connected.

Secure Valuables and Important Documents

Movers cannot transport cash, jewelry, passports, or important documents. Put these in a bag you keep with you personally. The same goes for prescription medications, laptops, and anything you would be devastated to lose.

Do a Final Walk-Through

Before the movers leave with a loaded truck, walk through every room, closet, cabinet, attic, basement, and garage. Check the tops of closets and behind doors. Items left behind are a common and avoidable problem.

Label Rooms at the New Place

Tape simple signs on doors at your new home: "Kitchen," "Master Bedroom," "Kids Room." When every box is labeled with its room, movers can place everything in the right spot without asking you a hundred questions.

Have Payment Ready

Know your payment method ahead of time. Harbor Moving LLC accepts all major credit cards, debit cards, cash, certified checks, and bank transfers. Payment is due upon completion of the move. Having payment ready keeps the end of a long day smooth.

Keep Kids and Pets Somewhere Safe

Moving day is chaotic, with doors open and heavy items in motion. Arrange for kids and pets to stay with a friend or family member for the day. It is safer for them and faster for the crew.

Stay Available, Not in the Way

Your movers may have questions about fragile items or placement. Stay nearby and reachable, but let the crew work. Hovering slows everyone down. If you hired Harbor Moving LLC, you can relax: our trained crews handle the heavy lifting. Questions? Call (617) 378-1796.
